What is Ata Rawea?
Ata Rawea is the programme provided by the regional body of Ataarangi based in the area of Manawatū, Whanganui and Taranaki. This reo programme has been designed specifically for the education workforce and utilises community-based kaiako to build oral reo proficiency.
The team
He Ata Rawea staff have been chosen because of their active participation in local communities and their passion for using reo Māori. They have a diverse range of backgrounds and have worked hard to build their reo proficiency. Some are trained teachers and others have a long experience in Te Ataarangi learning approach.

Our Governance Body
There are two governance members from each of the three regions, Manawatū, Whanganui and Taranaki.
Manawatū – Hohepa Issac-Sharland, Iwi reo advocate, trained Kura Māori teacher
Manawatū – Debi Marshall-Lobb, Secondary school principal
Whanganui – Karleen Marshall, Primary school principal
Taranaki – Ruta Broughton, Iwi reo advocate, Ataarangi pouako
Taranaki – Wharehoka Wano, Iwi leader, trained secondary teacher
